BAGS & BELTS
Movement is an important design element; bags and belts feature long trailing fringes and tassel details. An offshoot of this trend are bags with texture: feathers, fur and interwoven finishes. Alternative styles have a clean look, devoid of excess decoration or details; these styles feature belt-style fastenings and short, neat straps. Softer finishes include bags with quilted and padded surfaces, soft clutch styles that fold into the hand and tote styles with wavy gathers along straps. Curvy crescent silhouettes are popular and these continue to impact the bag scene.
Belts are both functional and decorative. Styles that sit on the waist are generally wider with corset details while belts that curve onto the hipline feature more hardware and utility details. Decorative belts include those with long cut fringes or sash ties, scarves are worn at the hipline and belts with square pocket bags are step forward from bum bags.
EYEWEAR
Low-profile styles are a key shape for sunglasses and eyewear. These shapes are cleverly cut into ovals with full frame, half frame or frameless surrounds. Wireframes are another important frame with finishes in brushed chrome, shiny metal or black; these combine with black, soft-tint colour or clear lenses. Oversize D-frames and retro round shapes are popular in brown tortoiseshell patterns, colour tints or glossy black frames. Aviator styles are trending in thick frames with pattern or colour frames and colour-tinted lenses. Sporty-visor styles wrap around the face with mirror lenses for added drama – equally dramatic are oversize bug-styles and inflated frames.
FOOTWEAR
Strappy flip flops and open toe styles are elevated with cute kitten heels, fancy hosiery or additional ankle or toe jewellery. Flat ballet pumps are split into tabi toes or feature criss-cross lacing and decorative baubles, alternatively they combine with trainers into hybrid styles. Other important flat styles include point-toe and strappy sandals. Summer boots are trending, styled with short-length skirts, shorts and dresses. Platforms are added to peep-toe mules, clogs and multi-strap styles. Loafers are chunky with thick soles and prominent tread. Trainers also focus on the soles/heels with stacked colours, moulded curves or the contrast heels of the Nike x Martine Rose shox collab.
HEADWEAR
Skull caps add an element of craft to outfits. Most popular styles are open crochet styles with beads or metallic lurex thread, while longer versions feature fringes or draped beading. Scarves are also very popular with everything from neat triangles, long draped squares tied onto the head or baseball caps. More structured styles are neat pill-box styles, and tiered ‘layer cake’ shapes, with additional details including ‘ears’ and pompoms. Sunhats come in woven raffia, straw and paper with frayed or neat edges. Alternative sun hats are felt stetson styles in white or cream colours and cowboy hats in denim or cotton. Other important styles are caps with brims: flat, baker, baseball and newsboy caps in patterned and plain fabrics.
JEWELLERY
Earrings are often the focal point of entire outfits, standout styles come in polished metals or bright colours. Shapes are often irregular and textured in designs which are based on wavy florals, organic forms or shells. Earrings also combine in stacks or multiple arrangements, worn alongside bracelets and rings. Necklaces are very personal, featuring animal pendants, hearts, keys and crosses. Pearls make an appearance across strand necklaces, drop earrings and bracelets. Colour makes a splash in bright bead necklaces or earrings with polished stones or bright enamel finishes. Crystals are formed into multi-strand necklaces or bold statement earrings which come in natural clear finishes or clusters of colour.
